Hay Bale Decorating Contest 2011 Winner!

Congratulations to Stephanie and Ron Austin of Scott-McCoppin for winning the Hay Bale Decorating Contest for 2011. Their “Book Worm” hay bale was one among several great hay bales that were decorated over the Kansas Biggest Rodeo week this year. The promotion committe had a very tough time picking this year’s winner! Ron and Stephanie will be receiving the Golden Hay Bale award as well as bragging rights for the year 2011. Due to the incredible thought and creativity that was shown by this year’s participants, we also added three categories as honorable mentions. Wenzl Drug was selected as Best Rodeo Theme.  Scott-McCoppin was also selected as best Business Representation, and Sawyer’s Ace Hardware was selected as most original. This promotional event is a fantastic way for our people and businesses to display the uniqueness of small town communities during one of the busiest week/weekends in Phillipsburg.

Why is Downtown Important to the Entire Community?

The Downtown is an important community symbol – the traditional center of governement, finance, commercial activity, and civic life. The value of a revitalized downtown to a Downtown Designated Retail Merchant could be the expanded customer base, more sales, or shared responsibility for retail success. For residents of the community it could be protection of property values, overall improved economy, or more employment opportunities.  For senior citizens it could be convenient location of goods and services, preservation of community history and personal memories, or just a safer and more secure enviroment.  Contact Kera Nuckolls, Executive Director at dpmainstreet@ruraltel.net or 785.540.4284 for other reasons why your Downtown should be important to you.

Kansas Biggest Rodeo Parade

If you were at the Kansas Biggest Rodeo Parade, you may have seen these Covered Wagons traveling the streets. As a part of our Phillipsburger Fundraiser-we went mobile! We drove our ”wagons” to deliver burgers and water to the parade participants-and of course, had a BLAST doing it!
